PV System Design
Roof dimensions,
average daily electricity use, budget and system intent all play a factor
in a custom system design. If mounting the solar array on your roof, look
at the available roof space and obstructions such as chimneys, plumbing vents
and skylights. Do you want to eliminate your electric bills, reduce your
bills, or provide back-up power?
The worksheet
included with our customer brochure will help you decide what size of solar
array would be required to eliminate your electric bill or to reduce part
of your
bill
depending
on
your budget and goals. A back-up system will require the purchase of batteries
with enough storage capacity for your usage.
We also offer
pre-packaged grid tie systems ready to ship. See our Grid
Power Products Page for more detail.
Energy Conservation
It is highly recommended
to make your home as efficient and energy conserving as possible before
determining your grid-tie system. Common techniques include: Switch to compact
fluorescent
lighting (CFLs). Use solar screens on windows (especially windows facing
south and west). Check all insulation in walls, attic, and plumbing. Check
all seals in windows, doors, and chimney. Upgrade to appliances that meet
or exceed Energy Star ratings. Use an energy conserving power strip or
surge protector for your computer and entertainment centers. Consider using
a
solar water heating system.
